Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Addis Ababa – Fly to Djibouti
Arrive in Addis Ababa and meet our team at the airport. After a short city stop, transfer for your flight to Djibouti. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel for check-in and rest. If time permits, enjoy a short introduction tour of Djibouti City including local markets and cultural streets.
Overnight in Djibouti City.
Day 2: Djibouti – Lake Abbé
Drive to Lake Abbé, a surreal desert landscape famous for its limestone chimneys, hot springs, and lunar-like scenery. Enjoy a breathtaking sunset over the formations.
Overnight camping or community lodge at Lake Abbé.
Day 3: Lake Abbé – Lake Assal – Djibouti City
Early morning sunrise at Lake Abbé before continuing to Lake Assal, the lowest point in Africa. Experience the unique floating sensation in its highly saline waters before returning to Djibouti City.
Overnight in Djibouti City.
Day 4: Djibouti – Galafi Border – Semera (Ethiopia Entry)
Drive through Dikhil and cross the Galafi border into Ethiopia. Continue to Semera, the gateway to the Danakil Depression. Check in and rest.
Overnight in Semera.
Day 5: Semera – Hamed Ela (Danakil Depression)
Begin your desert expedition with a professional convoy. Drive approximately 350 km through Afar landscapes, stopping in Afdera for a picnic lunch.
Arrive at Hamed Ela in the afternoon, set up camp, and visit Lake Assale for a stunning sunset over the salt flats.
Overnight camping at Hamed Ela.
Day 6: Dallol – Erta Ale Volcano
Early morning exploration of Dallol’s geothermal fields, salt caves, and acid pools. Continue to Lake Karum before returning for lunch.
In the afternoon, drive to Erta Ale volcano. Hike to the crater rim to witness the active lava lake at sunset.
Overnight camping at Erta Ale.
Day 7: Erta Ale – Afdera – Semera – Addis Ababa
Early morning sunrise at the volcano before returning to camp for breakfast. Drive to Afdera Salt Lake and explore salt mining activities.
Continue to Semera for your evening flight back to Addis Ababa (17:40 – 19:00). Arrive and transfer to hotel.
Overnight in Addis Ababa.
Day 8: Departure
Transfer to Bole International Airport for your international departure.
End of tour.
