Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival – Addis Ababa
Arrival in Addis Ababa and overnight stay onboard or transfer depending on flight schedule.
Day 2: Addis Ababa City Tour
Arrive in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. Visit the National Museum (home of “Lucy”), Ethnological Museum in the former palace of Emperor Haile Selassie, and Merkato, the largest open-air market in East Africa. Overnight in Addis Ababa.
Day 3: Fly Addis Ababa – Bahir Dar
Morning flight to Bahir Dar. Visit the Blue Nile Falls and Lake Tana monasteries, followed by a city tour and local market experience. Overnight in Bahir Dar.
Day 4: Bahir Dar – Gondar
Drive to Gondar, Ethiopia’s former imperial capital. Visit Fasil Ghebbi (Royal Enclosure), Bath of Emperor Fasilides, and Debre Berhan Selassie Church with its famous angel-painted ceiling. Overnight in Gondar.
Day 5: Simien Mountains Excursion
Full-day excursion to Simien Mountains National Park (UNESCO Site). Trek through dramatic escarpments, spot Gelada baboons, and enjoy panoramic highland scenery. Return to Gondar for overnight.
Day 6: Gondar – Lalibela
Travel through the scenic Lasta mountains to Lalibela. Arrive and check in to your hotel. Overnight in Lalibela.
Day 7: Lalibela Rock-Hewn Churches
Full-day exploration of the UNESCO-listed rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, including both northern and southern clusters and the iconic Bet Giyorgis. Overnight in Lalibela.
Day 8: Fly Lalibela – Addis Ababa
Mount Entoto. Overnight in Addis Ababa.
Day 9: Fly to Semera – Danakil Depression Begins
Fly to Semera and begin expedition into the Danakil Depression. Drive through Afdera to Hamed Ela, visit Lake Assale, and enjoy sunset over salt flats. Overnight camping at Hamed Ela.
Day 10: Dallol – Lake Karum – Erta Ale Volcano
Explore the surreal landscapes of Dallol, salt caves, and Lake Karum. Observe traditional salt mining and camel caravans. Continue to Erta Ale volcano and hike to the lava lake at sunset. Overnight camping at Erta Ale.
Day 11: Afdera – Semera
Visit Afdera Salt Lake and salt production areas. Experience extreme desert heat and local salt economy before returning to Semera. Overnight in hotel.
Day 12: Semera – Awash National Park – Doho Lodge
Drive to Awash region. Visit Awash National Park for wildlife viewing including oryx, baboons, and antelope. Relax at Doho natural hot springs lodge. Overnight at Doho Lodge.
Day 13: Awash – Harar
Morning game drive in Awash National Park. Continue to Harar via scenic eastern Ethiopia landscapes. Overnight in Harar.
Day 14: Harar City Tour
Explore the UNESCO-listed walled city of Harar. Visit Jugol walls, traditional Harari houses, Rimbaud’s house, and colorful local markets.
Day 15: Harar Cultural Exploration
Visit Sheik Sherif Museum, tomb of Emir Nur, and Harari cultural center. Experience coffee ceremonies and the famous hyena feeding ritual in the evening.
Day 16: Harar – Dire Dawa
Drive to Dire Dawa via Aweday chat market. Visit railway heritage sites, traditional markets, and colonial-era architecture. Overnight in Dire Dawa.
Day 17: Fly Dire Dawa – Addis Ababa – Departure
