Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Addis Ababa – City Tour
Arrive in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. Begin your journey with a guided city tour including the National Museum (home of “Lucy”), the Ethnological Museum in the former palace of Emperor Haile Selassie, and Merkato, the largest open-air market in Africa. Overnight in Addis Ababa.
Day 2: Fly to Gondar – Imperial Castles & Churches
Morning flight to Gondar, the historic imperial capital. Visit the Royal Enclosure (Fasil Ghebbi), Bath of Emperor Fasilides, and Debre Berhan Selassie Church with its famous angel-painted ceiling. Overnight in Gondar.
Day 3: Gondar – Drive to Lalibela
Scenic drive through the northern Ethiopian highlands to Lalibela. Arrive and check in to your hotel. Overnight in Lalibela.
Day 4: Lalibela – Rock-Hewn Churches Exploration
Full day exploring the UNESCO-listed rock-hewn churches of Lalibela. Visit both northern and southern church clusters including Bet Medhane Alem, Bet Maryam, Bet Giyorgis, and tunnel-linked structures carved from solid rock. Overnight in Lalibela.
Day 5: Fly Lalibela – Addis Ababa City Tour
Fly back to Addis Ababa. Visit Holy Trinity Cathedral and Mount Entoto for panoramic city views. Explore St. Mary Church and its small museum. Overnight in Addis Ababa.
Day 6: Fly to Semera – Danakil Depression Begins
Fly to Semera and begin your journey into the Danakil Depression. Travel through Afdera and continue to Hamed Ela. Visit Lake Assale and enjoy sunset over the salt flats. Overnight camping in Hamed Ela.
Day 7: Dallol & Erta Ale Region
Explore the otherworldly landscapes of Dallol with colorful geothermal formations, salt caves, and acidic pools. Visit Lake Karum and observe traditional salt mining. Continue toward Erta Ale volcanic region. Overnight camping.
Day 8: Afdera – Return to Addis Ababa
Visit Afdera salt lake and surrounding desert landscapes. Transfer to Semera or Mekele for your flight back to Addis Ababa. Overnight in Addis Ababa.
Day 9: Fly to Jinka – Mursi Tribe
Fly to Jinka in the Omo Valley. Visit Mago National Park and the Mursi tribe, known for their distinctive lip plates and cultural traditions. Overnight in Jinka.
Day 10: Turmi – Hamer & Dassanech Tribes
Drive to Turmi, visiting Hamer villages en route. Continue to Omorate to visit the Dassanech tribe via traditional river crossing. Optional Bull Jumping ceremony depending on availability. Overnight in Turmi.
Day 11: Karo Tribe – Konso UNESCO Site
Visit the Karo tribe along the Omo River, known for body painting traditions. Continue to Konso, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for terraced landscapes and cultural wooden grave markers. Overnight in Konso.
Day 12: Lake Chamo Safari – Arba Minch
Drive to Arba Minch and enjoy a boat safari on Lake Chamo to see crocodiles, hippos, and birdlife. Visit Nechisar National Park region. Overnight in Arba Minch.
Day 13: Dorze Village – Fly to Addis Ababa
Visit Dorze village, known for bamboo houses, weaving traditions, and terraced farming. Fly back to Addis Ababa and enjoy a farewell cultural dinner with traditional music and dance. Overnight in Addis Ababa.
Day 14: Departure
Free time for shopping or relaxation. Transfer to the airport for international departure.
