Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Semera – Dodom – Erta Ale
Start your journey in Semera and travel by shared 4×4 vehicle across lava fields and desert plains toward Dodom (approx. 4–5 hours).
After a simple early dinner, begin your evening trek to Erta Ale. Camels will carry shared camping equipment, allowing you to hike with just a small backpack.
At the summit, witness the glowing lava lake—one of the few in the world—an unforgettable natural spectacle.
Overnight: Basic open-air camping (shared setup, simple bedding)
Day 2: Erta Ale – Lake Afdera – Semera
After sunrise views of the crater, descend back to Dodom for breakfast.
Continue to Lake Afdera, where you can relax and swim in warm, mineral-rich waters. You’ll also see local Afar communities extracting salt using traditional methods.
Return to Semera in the afternoon. Drop-off at airport or hotel.
